Is Suicide Squad Really That Bad???

Suicide Squad. I was very excited about this movie, and then the embargo was lifted and the reviews started to flow in. At that point in time, I was still excited about this movie. Let me give out some helpful advice to all movie goers out there. If a movie is being made and you see footage and you like it, go see it. It’s made for you not the critics. Suicide Squad was a fun journey that I thoroughly enjoyed. It felt a bit choppy and rushed at certain points in the story. Transitions sometimes can feel a bit jerky as you shift from one characters introduction to the next, but I felt that was the most easy and efficient way to introduce the whole Suicide Squad without the movie having to be 3 and a half hours.

Let’s talk about the individual characters. We will start with the worst. Killer Croc. I was willing to look past his appearance (which looked good in some scenes and awful in others). But his personality is what really threw me off. It in no way shape or form reminded me of Killer Croc. Whether he was requesting BET in his cell or calling people bruhs, it was all terrible. Now let’s talk about my favorite three.

First you have the Joker, whom which I loved. Creepy, maniacal, unpredictable. He was everything that you would expect from the Joker. Take Jared Leto’s rendition of the character as its own entity just like you would do for Jack Nicholson, or Mark Hamill, or Heath Ledger. The Joker in my opinion was awesome. Then, he gets paired with Harley Quinn and it was gold. Harley Quinn is getting a standalone movie for a reason. Margot Robbie did not disappoint. As I was watching them on screen together the thoughts that kept cruising through my head was that I could really picture them in an awesome Batman movie. Deadshot was also good and exactly what you would expect Deadshot to be. The Enchantress was pretty cool also even though she was one of the main plot points that was rushed in the movie.

I don’t want to say to much because I don’t want to spoil anything. We can’t forget Amanda Waller. The whole movie I was wishing that somebody would off her. I think that she did very well as the character. Everyone else felt more like support characters in the movie but they did their job and did it well.

The next thing on the list would be the villain. This part unfortunately, was rushed. Without going into further details and spoilers just know that the villain was cool in the end, but the setup and prep was lackluster.

Some of the humor throughout the movie felt a little bit forced and awkward. I believe that this was due to the re-shoots that occurred after production. This movie was good. There was a lot of stuff that could have been better and that should have been better. If you like the DCEU then this is a must see because this is an awesome step in the right direction for them. Get out when you have the chance and check it out.

P.S. Stay for the during credits scene.
